Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use HSA & FSA at Oh Baby Mine for services or products?
Yes!
My mother was not able to breastfeed will I be able to?
A woman who is in good health and eats a proper diet will produce the amount of milk to meet her baby's needs. The ability to breastfeed has nothing to do with your mother.
Will I need to eat a special diet while I breastfeed?
There is no special diet to eat while breastfeeding. You always want to eat foods that nourish your body properly anyway. Sometimes baby will show signs of intolerance after you eat certain foods; then you would have to restrict only those foods.
Formula is just as good as human milk right?
Formula is quite different than human milk. Human milk is a live substance that provides antibodies & protection against diseases that only your body can manufacture to meet your baby's needs exactly! Your baby is a human shouldn't they have human milk?
Does Insurance cover lactation & doula services?
You will have to check with your insurance company. Since more moms are wanting to breastfeed the need for
a lactation consultant is becoming greater. Other medical providers have not had the training that a lactation
consultant has. We are so specialized for you & your baby's needs. I fill out a superbill just like other medical providers & give you easy instructions on how to get reimbursement. There are ways to get preauthorization for the use of a doula at your labor. I can email you the info you will need to give your insurance company. If your insurance does not cover the service we have a variety of affordable options.
How much do your consultations cost?
IF insurance does not cover lactation (and it still might not unfortunately) you will have to pay out-of-pocket.
But take into consideration the benefits outweigh the cost of lactation services. You won't be going to the doctor as often with baby (savings there), you won't have to buy ABM (savings & gas savings too), you won't have to search for a compatibleABM (your milk is perfect), laundry cost & time (because breastmilk doesn't leave a lot of staining). You will eventually learn how convenient it is to feed laying down so you will save on rest, you won't need special nursery water (gas savings again) & no prep time because it's always ready & CLEAN! So if it sounds like hiring a lactation consultant might cost too much take into consideration the money you will save, the time you will save, the health of your children & how wonderful a relationship you will form with your baby. I have different cost levels for 1 mini consult, 1 regular consult & unlimited consults which I will be available for visits, phone calls or emails/texting until baby weans (that's a great value!).
Can I breastfeed when I'm pregnant? Will I be able to maintain my supply?
Yes, you can and should breastfeed while you are pregnant; if that's what baby still wants. Depending on the age of the baby you may or may not be able to think about weaning. Babies under 12 months of age need to have mother's milk or ABM. If baby is beyond 12 months they still love to nurse but things will start to change in your body and they will taste the change in your milk. Some pregnant moms experience a drop in supply BUT no worries; we have the MILK PACK PRO TOO (totally safe for breastfeeding pregnant moms)
I can't drive right now, can you come to my home?
Yes, for a small travel fee I will bring all the things we need to have a successful consult. I will also bring extra things just in case.
Will you come home with us?!
Yes, as a postpartum doula, I am available to stay with you at night (3 hour minimum). During this time I will keep on eye on baby while you rest. I will even help with light housework (dishes, laundry, cooking)
For more info on this service please message or call; each situation is different.
Is a lactation consultation helpful?
From a recent patient of mine~
"No bottle for LO in two days supply seems to be getting better as he is eating more often and longer :-)"
